His game Stardrew Valley has sold 10 million copies across all platforms. have you ever wondered why Stardrew Valley has become so successful? How Eric Barone thought of this game? Well, today we are gonna find some answers to these questions.


The Harvest Moon Impact.


Eric Barone wanted to make a portfolio for his resume so he could get a job. So he decided to make the game he loved playing in his childhood 'Harvest Moon'. Harvest Moon is the farm simulation a roleplaying game created by Yasuhiro Wada for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Harvest Moon was released first in Japan in 1996. Eric Barone enjoyed playing Harvest moon


So when he was making a portfolio for his job he thought of making a game like Harvest moon. There were a lot of things amazing about the game and one of them was that you could have a relationship with the townsfolk and even can get married.


As the series went forward it became worst. Eric Barone says "My experiences playing Harvest Moon are priceless and have had a deep impact on me". He wanted to have his game the same kind of power that Harvest moon had. According to him " The Gameplay of the Harvest Moon was usually fun, but I felt like no title in the series ever brought it all together in a perfect way".


Eric Barone wanted to make a game like Harvest Moon. He also said, "My idea with Stardew Valley was to address the problems I had with Harvest Moon, as well as create more 'purpose' with tried-and-true gameplay elements such as crafting and quests."


The Work Eric Barone Put In Stardrew Valley.

It took 4 years for Eric Barone to create Stardrew Valley. Eric Barone says, he has spent approximately 70 hours per week hammering Stardrew Valley for 4 years. Eric did all of his work 

  • Programming.
  • Music.
  • Art.
  • Dialogue.
  • Sound Effect.

As it was taking a lot of time and work to make the game, Eric got better at his work, so he had to work again on the art he made before. For the game, Eric had to add basic farming mechanics and he used to do proper research before adding things like crops and minerals so they could match the behavior and scarcity. Even his girlfriend who was a Plant Biology graduate helped him with the game.


Eric needed to earn money so he could pay his bills so he worked as an usher at Seattle Paramount Theatre. 

He was excited because he was working alone on the game as a solo developer. The game was going to publish by Chucklefish. 


The team at Chucklefish helped Eric to create a new website. He used to give updates about Stardrew Valley. 


Lots of Indie games were doing early access and Eric wanted his game to stand out from the crowd so he decided to release the game when it was done.

Conclusion.

Eric Barone had put a lot of effort and time into his game. He didn't even expect that he will get this huge success. 

He was passionate about his game and that's what I think helped him to make the game so successful.
